These Sustainable Pencils Can Grow Trees! Here's How:

With more and more people gaining awareness of environmental issues like climate change and resource depletion, companies are increasingly trying to make their products as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible.

One business that has successfully taken an ordinary, everyday object and turned into a commodity that keeps on giving?

Sprout World, a Denmark based company that produces plantable pencils!

Yes, you heard that right. These may look like your average, run-of-the-mill pencils, but the Sprout Pencil offers more than the eye can see.

How does it work?

See that black tip at the end of the pencil? That tiny piece is actually a capsule containing seeds of different plants, instead of the usual eraser we often find at the top of our regular pencils.

Once the pencil gets too short to write with, it's planting time! All you need to do is "plant" the pencil into the soil in a pot, water it according to instructions based on the plant waiting inside the capsule, and wait for it to sprout.

Upon exposure to soil and water, the capsule dissolves, letting the seeds out to naturally germinate.

What are my options?

The variety of plants, herbs, flowers, and even vegetables that you can grow using a Sprout Pencil is huge!

From herbs like basil, coriander, mint, sage, thyme, and oregano, to beautiful flowers including forget-me-nots, sunflowers, and calendulas, these pencils will sure make your life a lot fresher!

You also have the option to plant fruits like strawberries and cherry tomatoes, and veggies like chili pepper (just be careful not to touch your eyes after touching the plant!)

Each pencil is also made of sustainable cedar, with every tree used to make the pencils replaced soon after harvesting. Denmark, you've done it again!

More information on how to grow and take care of each plant is available on the sprout world website.
