Decorate Your Home With DIY Wall Art

We’ve all got dressed and then realized we’re missing out perfect piece to complete our look. Be it a necklace, earrings, or even lipstick. So, how can you dress up your room and forget its lipstick? The answer is: you can’t! You need to add a little shine to your room, what is your room’s shine? Wall art, of course!

But, everything on the market is so generic. Even if you’ve seen something you like, you know at least one person who has the same thing! You want your home to stand out, look different, and have that oomph! How do you do it? Make your own wall art. You just need to think about your favorite quote and put the pieces together. Here’s how you can make your stand out wall art.

What you’ll need:

  1. A canvas
  2. Acrylic Paint
  3. Mod Podge
  4. Sponges or Sponge Brushes
  5. Scissors
  6. Carpet knife
  7. Cardboard to cut on
  8. Tape
  9. Scrapbook Paper
  10. A printout of your favorite quote

Now you’ve got everything you need, let’s get to making your unique wall art.

Step 1

Grab your scissors and cut out your quote. For the inside of your letters, use your carpet knife and cardboard to cut them out.

Step 2

Arrange your letters on your canvas just to make sure it fits the way you like.

Grab your scrapbook paper and set up the design you want on your canvas. Once you’re happy with your design, glue it down with mod podge. You’ll need to let it dry for 10 - 15 minutes before moving onto the next step.

Step 4

Arrange your quote on the canvas again and use some tape to hold it in place. You only need a little bit to hold it down.

Step 5

Now for the fun part. Grab your paint. Try to use a color that’s different from your background so that your quote is still readable. Slowly sponge paint over the letters. You’ll need two coats, so let the first quote dry for 10 - 15 minutes before you paint over it again. Don’t forget to paint the sides of your canvas too.

Step 6

Very slowly peel off your letters. If some paint has gotten underneath your letters, then you can very carefully scrape it off with your carpet knife. Notice, it was painted in gray and the quote didn't show, so it was redone in black, for the contrast.

You’re almost done! Slap on one last quote of mod podge and let it dry. Viola! All done and so you!
